I have been a part of the BCS staff for the last four years. This year I am teaching both 11th and 9th grade English classes in the high school, as well as single sections of CIS Literature and Writing 1201 (a concurrent enrollment program through U of M). My other roles in the building include serving as a member of the school's Instructional Leadership Team, and as the Union Representative for the building.
In the past, I have led the school's poetry club, which in recent years has evolved into Poetry Out Loud. Poetry Out Loud is a poetry performance competition that has both state and national levels. Last year one of my 10th graders joined me at the semi finals at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. BCS's 2016 competition will be held again in January. I hope to have even greater participation this year than we had last year. Here is a link to the Poetry Out Loud website where you can learn more about this event: http://www.poetryoutloud.org
I should also share a bit about my educational background and my professional qualifications, as I am teaching your children. I hold a BA in English from the University of North Dakota, and an MA in English from the University of Saint Thomas. My teaching licenses in Communication Arts and Literature and Reading were earned at Hamline University, as was my MA in Literacy Education, which was just completed in August of 2014.
